Adding an RSS module Print
RSS, or Really Simple Syndication, is a way for web sites and content providers to share their information. Many sites provide RSS feeds that may keep you informed of stocks, weather, news headlines, or provide a service such as, word of the day, joke of the day, celebrity birthdays today.. etc..

For our example, we'll use a Yahoo! News RSS feed. Their list of news feeds is located at http://news.yahoo.com/rss. Navigating there, we'll see a list of feeds provided by Yahoo! News.

Right click on the XML button next to 'Oddly Enough' and select 'Copy Link Location' or 'Copy Shortcut' (your browser may have different text describing the function that copies the location of a link to the clipboard).

Now that we have the location of this RSS feed, open up Thyme, login, then navigate to the admin section. We would like to add an RSS feed module, so click on 'RSS Feed Modules.' You will be presented with a box that allows you to add an RSS feed. In title enter 'Oddly Enough - Yahoo!' and in the description enter 'Odd news headlines from Yahoo!'.

Once you click Save, you must then click the Edit button for this feed. This will open up this RSS feed's information. In the URL box, paste the URL we had previously copied. For Update Interval, select 20 minutes.

The RSS module has all the essentials it needs to run. Click on 'Test' to make sure the RSS feed url we've added works. You may select a style and scrolling option as well. For an RSS feed that is probably going to be long, it is best to choose the Scrollbar or Autoscrolling option. Then click on Save.

You may now navigate to the modules/nav bar section and add this module to your navigation bar just as you would any other.

Clicking on the Enable link will make this module appear in your nav bar.

You may do an internet search to find other RSS feeds that may interest you. Many news and content rich sites provide RSS feeds. These are usually indicated by an RSS image link that may look like the following:

- or -

Simply copy the location for these links and follow the procedures in this example.
